In a second clarification regarding the reserved seats case, the majority of eight judges of the Supreme Court have reiterated their stance following a request by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

The judges affirmed that the amendments to the Election Act do not invalidate the Supreme Court’s July 12 decision. They emphasised that applying amendments retrospectively cannot undermine the prior ruling.

According to the court’s short order, the amendments to the Election Act will not impact the previous court ruling.

The judges highlighted that the rights of voters, as outlined in the brief ruling, were granted relief through political parties. Since both the Election Commission and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) requested clarification, the court opted to restate the legal interpretation of the matter.

The judges further reiterated that the amendments to the Election Act do not allow for the retrospective application of their decision.
