Former Indian tennis champion Sania Mirza was appointed sports ambassador by the Dubai Sports Council on Wednesday. The council, established in 2005, oversees the development of Dubai’s sports sector and promotes physical activity across society, with a focus on women and children.
The 37-year-old tennis icon announced the news on Instagram, writing, “Honoured and grateful to be a sports ambassador for Dubai! Thank you for this incredible opportunity, Dubai Sports Council.” The ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh, who joined in celebrating Mirza’s new role.

Sania Mirza retired from professional tennis earlier this year after her final appearance at the Australian Open 2023. Since then, she has devoted time to her family and young son, Izhaan Mirza-Malik, while exploring new ventures off the court.
