Robot in South Korea commits suicide after overwork

WEB DESK: In a bizarre and unsettling incident, a robot in South Korea has reportedly “committed suicide” after being overworked by the city council, according to a report by CNBC on Friday.

The incident took place last Thursday in Gumi city at a government municipal office where the robot had been carrying out routine administrative tasks for approximately a year.

Officials investigating the matter stated, “The robot was making rapid rounds before committing suicide and then deliberately walked towards a 6-foot-high ladder and jumped from there.”

The robot civil servant, developed by the American company Bear Robotics, was designed to handle advanced tasks such as daily document deliveries, city promotions, and providing information to residents.

Working hours for the South Korea robot were from 9am to 6pm, but the excessive workload appears to have contributed to the unusual incident.

Investigators have gathered parts of the robot for evaluation, with suspicions that tampering with its programming might have led to its strange behavior and eventual demise. The investigation continues as authorities seek to understand the full extent of what caused this unprecedented event.
