British-Pakistani journalist and former wife of Prime Minister Imran Khan, Reham Khan, has taken to Twitter to criticise the current government after receiving an exorbitant electricity bill.
In her tweet, Reham Khan revealed that she had only lived on the property for 12 days, during which only one air conditioner was used, and that too, only at night. Despite this limited usage, she received a staggering bill of Rs59,471.
I just got my electricity bill for June.
I was in the property for only 12 days. Only one AC in use in one room & that too at night since I’m working all day.
It’s a brand new AC so considered cost effective too. This is in Lahore.
Now how can a person in cities like Karachi… pic.twitter.com/Cc25LqiC9C— Reham Khan (@RehamKhan1) July 3, 2024
Expressing her concern, she questioned how individuals in cities like Karachi, who earn between 1 to 2 lakhs and have young children in school or college, can afford such high utility costs. “This government is displaying criminal callousness,” she added.
The recent surge in electricity bills for June has hit Pakistanis hard, particularly during this extreme heat. Many citizens, especially those from the working class, are struggling to pay these inflated amounts.
