Reckless driving in DHA claims life of LUMS student

Police are under heavy criticism for their inability to curb frequent accidents caused by reckless driving, particularly in the affluent area of DHA.

The tragic death of Abdul Hadi, a LUMS student, and the severe injuries sustained by his brother, Abdullah Khan, have highlighted the issue once again. The brothers were struck by a reckless driver while riding their motorcycle.

Footage of the incident reveals an approximately 18-year-old driver speeding and colliding with the brothers’ bike from behind, critically injuring both. The driver fled the scene immediately after the crash.

According to the FIR filed at Defence C Police Station, 22-year-old Hadi and his 30-year-old brother Abdullah were traveling from DHA Phase 7 to Defence Raya when the speeding sedan hit them. The collision destroyed their motorcycle. Hadi later died from his injuries at the hospital, while Abdullah remains in critical condition.

The viral video of the incident has led to widespread criticism on social media, with many blaming the police for not addressing the issue of reckless and underage driving in wealthy neighborhoods. Critics argue that young drivers from affluent families often evade consequences due to their financial status.

Cantt Division Investigation SP Bushra Nisar stated that the suspect is on pre-arrest bail until June 14, after which he will be presented in court.
