By ISLAMABAD: The Academic Staff Association (ASA) at Quaid-i-Azam University has urged the government to allocate Rs5 billion to address a severe shortage of funds, jeopardising the university’s operations, as reported by Pro Pakistani.
According to the ASA president, the university is facing a budget deficit of approximately Rs800 million, leading to a standstill in operations since January 2023. Pending payments for teaching, lab chemicals, student fellowships, and medical bills have contributed to the crisis.

The ASA president has appealed to President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the HEC chairman, and the education minister for a special grant and bailout package to prevent the impending financial collapse of the university.
Furthermore, the ASA has called for an overall increase in the higher education budget to meet growing demands. Highlighting QAU’s significance and achievements, the ASA emphasized the need for a bailout package to sustain its performance.
