Punjab education minister exposes cheating scandal involving Lahore board officials

Punjab School Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has criticized the prevalent cheating culture during board exams, accusing the Chairman and Controller of the Lahore Board of complicity in illicit practices with the cheating mafia.

Allegations Against Board Officials

Hayat alleged that the suspended Chairman and Controller aided the cheating mafia in Lahore, with the Controller permitting the employment of private individuals to augment invigilator strength. He claimed facing threats from the cheating mafia for exposing them.

Involvement of Private School Mafia

The minister asserted that the private school mafia bribed the board to secure specific examination centers, allegedly sold for Rs80,000 each. He provided evidence in support of these allegations.

Cost of Obtaining Answer Sheets

Hayat mentioned that obtaining answer-filled papers costs students between Rs4,000 to Rs7,000, with discussions on social media platforms openly discussing the pricing.

Preventative Measures

Vowing to prevent Punjab from facing the same fate as Sindh and Karachi, Hayat pledged to continue unveiling the cheating mafia. Thirty accused have been apprehended so far, with more prominent figures set to be exposed soon.

Reports indicate that inspection teams sealed seven examination centers across the city, annulling the papers of hundreds of students after discovering cheating practices involving superintendents, invigilators, and students.

The scandal unfolded across various areas, including Sanda, Mozang, Sabzazar, Model Town, and Civil Lines. Inspection teams caught individuals facilitating cheating, with students attempting to cheat while superintendents and invigilators facilitated malpractice after accepting bribes.

Personal Oversight by Minister Hayat

Minister Rana Sikander Hayat personally led inspections, conducting surprise visits to examination centers, thus exposing the widespread extent of cheating.
