The provincial government of Punjab has banned an O-level history book authored by Nigel Kelly.

According to a notification issued by the Punjab School Education Department, the Punjab curriculum and textbook board in Lahore has banned “The History and Culture of Pakistan” by Nigel Kelly.

Punjab’s Minister for School Education, Rana Sikandar Hayat, confirmed to a private news channel that the textbook “The History and Culture of Pakistan” has been banned.

Several government officials, including Muhammad Akram Chaudhary (CEO of Bahawalpur’s district education authority), Javed Awan (CEO of Gujranwala’s district education authority), Kashif Zia (CEO of Faisalabad’s district education authority), and Faiz Abbas (CEO of Multan’s district education authority), also verified the notification’s authenticity.

Naveed Shahzad Mirza, the director of the Punjab curriculum and textbook board, stated that the ban was originally imposed in May of the previous year by the school education department. However, none of the officials provided a reason for the textbook’s ban.
