In response to recent doctors’ strikes and resignations, the Punjab Health Department has started recruiting 900 medical officers.

Punjab Minister of Primary and Secondary Healthcare, Khawaja Imran Nazir, stated that these doctors will be hired on a permanent basis in grade 17 and will be placed in district headquarters (DHQ), tehsil headquarters (THQ), and rural health centers.

The recruitment process for 378 women medical officers has already been completed. Khawaja Imran Nazir added that this recruitment initiative follows the directives of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz.

The goal is to fill all vacant doctor positions in hospitals through this hiring drive.

Last week, patients at three government hospitals experienced disruptions as young doctors went on strike. The protest was sparked by the dismissal of the principal medical officer in Sahiwal.

The strike was called by the Punjab Young Doctors Association, which demanded the termination of cases against them and an apology from either the Punjab Secretary of Health or the Chief Minister for the arrest and dismissal of physicians and the principal medical officer of Sahiwal Hospital during Maryam Nawaz’s visit.

Reports indicate that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, during her hospital visit, verbally ordered the termination of four senior officials and the arrest of the principal medical officer.
