The federal government has announced public holidays in Islamabad on October 14th, 15th, and 16th.

The government made this decision to declare public holidays in Islamabad to facilitate the smooth conduct of the SCO summit.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation will be held in Islamabad from October 15th to 16th.

Among others, Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will travel to Islamabad for SCO summit.

This will be the first visit by any Indian external affairs minister in nine years.

Sushma Swaraj was the last Indian foreign minister to have visited Islamabad in December 2015.

Army in Islamabad ahead of SCO:

The federal government on Friday called in the army troops in Islamabad, ahead of SCO Summit.

The deployment has been authorised under Article 245 of the Constitution.

A notification issued by the interior ministry stated that the army would remain in the capital from October 5 to 17 for maintaining law and order situation.

The notification added that the army had been called “for maintaining law and order situation with respect to 23rd meeting of SCO Council of Heads of Government.”

After the notification, the Pakistani army units took over the security duties in Islamabad.

Accorrding to reports, the deployment had been completed, with army troops now stationed across the federal capital and surrounding areas of Islamabad.

According to sources, the decision aims to protect both citizens and property from potential disturbances by miscreants during this high-profile event.

Army troops have already begun patrolling key areas of the capital to maintain order and provide a visible security presence.
