Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader, Ali Muhammad Khan, has opposed his party’s call for protest on October 15th during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.
What did Ali Muhammad Khan say about PTI protest call?
Speaking on a private channel, Khan expressed his personal stance, stating, “I believe there should be no protests during the SCO summit. However, if we continue to be cornered in such a manner, we will have no other options.”
He criticised the government’s actions, claiming that the constitutional amendments being proposed were creating divisions.
He accused the ruling coalition of playing with the judiciary, stating, “If intentions are sincere, solutions can always be found, but their intentions are flawed.”
Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz also slammed PTI after the party announced protest. The party leadership also announced the cancellation of protests in the districts of Punjab to focus on preparations for the event at D-Chowk.
Security situation in Islamabad ahead of SCO
Security is extremely tight ahead of the SCO summit, as many routes/roads are closed in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
Earlier, an order was issued to close restaurants, wedding halls, cafes, and snooker clubs in Islamabad and Rawalpindi for five days.
However, the district administration later clarified that no orders have been issued by either the federal government or the district authorities regarding the closure of wedding halls, restaurants, or cafes.
The government has already declared a three-day public holiday—October 14-16—in the twin cities to ensure the smooth conduct of the SCO summit.
