ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) in its written verdict on a petition against the PTI November 24 protest directed the Islamabad administration not to allow illegal sit-ins or protests in the federal capital.

IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq heard the petition filed by a local business to stop the planned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest in Islamabad.

The high court said that the Islamabad administration should take all measures as per the law to maintain peace, and it is the responsibility of the administration to ensure no disruption to the lives of ordinary citizens.

During the hearing, the petitioner’s lawyer Raja Rizwan Abbasi took the stand that an order should be issued to stop the PTI’s illegal protest, saying that Islamabad is facing such a situation every day because of the PTI’s behavior.

The court order mentioned that the Peaceful Protest and Public Order 2024 is the prevailing law for allowing sit-ins, protests, and rallies in the jurisdiction of Islamabad. “Administration should not allow sit-ins or protests against the prevailing law,” the court maintained.

The court also ordered the inclusion of the Chief Commissioner Islamabad in the committee, made to negotiate with the PTI leadership.

The decision said that the court is sure that progress will be made if there is contact, and the committee should inform the PTI leadership about the sensitivity of the visit of the President of Belarus.

Earlier, Islamabad’s Jinnah Super Market’s Traders Association President Asad approached the Islamabad High Court through Advocate Rizwan Abbasi to stop the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest and declare it illegal.

The petition made the Ministry of Interior, Chief Commissioner, IG Islamabad, and PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan respondent.
