Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan has clarified that the party never invited India’s Minister of External Affairs, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, to join their ongoing protests against the Pakistani government.

He said that PTI leader Barrister Saif’s statement was taken out of context.

Backstory of PTI’s invitation to India:

Earlier, during an interview, Barrister Saif stated that PTI would invite Jaishankar—who is scheduled to visit Pakistan for the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Islamabad—to address its protest at D-Chowk.

According to Saif, PTI would invite the Indian foreign minister to attend its protest and address it so that he could see how strong democracy is in Pakistan and how people are free to exercise their right to protest.

Clarifying further, Gohar said PTI firmly supports Pakistan’s 70-year policy toward India.

He said that PTI’s struggle is an internal matter. He highlighted that S. Jaishankar has no connection to PTI’s efforts.

He further stated that PTI’s political movement does not involve any foreign interference and affirmed that peaceful protests are an essential constitutional right for Pakistanis.

It is pertinent to mention that PTI has announced to protest in different cities to demand a cut in inflation, independence of judiciary and release of party founder Imran Khan.
