PTCL ‘closely monitoring’ FBR’s order of blocking sims

After the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) issued an order to block SIM cards associated with over 0.5 million non-filers, Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) announced on Wednesday that it is thoroughly reviewing the directive within the confines of relevant legal and regulatory frameworks.

According to a PTCL spokesperson, the company is actively monitoring the recent instructions from the country’s premier tax collection entity regarding the blocking of SIM cards linked to approximately 0.5 million computerized national identity cards (CNICs) classified as non-tax filers.

“This matter holds significant importance for us, and we are rigorously assessing this directive within the applicable legal and regulatory parameters,” the statement explained.

“We are committed to ensuring adherence to the relevant legal provisions while also protecting the interests of the affected consumers,” it further elaborated.

The company emphasized its close collaboration with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to effectively and responsibly address the issue.
