ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Thursday introduced a new method for registering Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) in Pakistan.
The process for registering VPNs was introduced during a consultative meeting held by the PTA with various stakeholders, including representatives from the Ministry of IT, the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB), and the Pakistan IT Association.
How to register VPN in Pakistan?
Unregistered VPNs can now be registered via the official PTA website.
The meeting also addressed concerns about the potential misuse of VPNs for illegal activities.
In accordance with the new regulations, the PTA has begun blocking unregistered VPNs in Pakistan. This registration framework is designed to ensure that IT companies, freelancers, and other stakeholders have uninterrupted internet access while encouraging them to register their VPNs.
What is a VPN?
VPN stands for Virtual Private Network, which allows users to browse the internet anonymously and securely. In countries where access to social media sites is restricted, users can use a VPN to change their location and access these sites.
