WEB DESK: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has blocked more than 1500 SIM cards connected to fraudulent activity as part of its stepped-up campaign against mobile phone fraud.

PTA received a large volume of complaints this year, including 4838 SMS complaints and 6298 scam calls, as reported by Samaa TV.

Of these, 487 complaints were connected to schemes utilizing the name of the Benazir Income Support Program, while 782 complaints dealt with fraud via WhatsApp.

In addition, 191 bogus calls and texts linked to the Bol game show were reported by the public.

PTA took action against mobile phones by restricting the IMEI numbers of 1401 devices in addition to blocking SIM cards.

A PTA representative stressed the strict steps being taken to prevent mobile phone fraud, highlighting their dedication to user protection.
