Protests erupt across KP over prolonged load shedding during Eid holidays

WEB DESK: Demonstrations have erupted across various cities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, as residents express their anger over prolonged and unannounced electricity load shedding, even during Eid.

In areas such as Afridi Ghari and Umar Gul Road, people took to the streets in protest, blocking Bara Road Customs Chowk to all traffic due to unbearable heat exacerbated by power cuts lasting up to 20 hours.

Similar protests occurred in Mardan, where a 20-hour outage led to residents setting a tire ablaze on Swabi Road and chanting grievances against severe load shedding during the festive days.

In Kirk, women joined the protests against unannounced load shedding, resulting in the closure of Main Kirk Road to all traffic as frustration grew over the lack of electricity during critical Eid celebrations.

Protesters highlighted that the worst load shedding occurred precisely on the first and second days of Eid, accusing WAPDA officers of enjoying their holidays undisturbed. The situation remains tense as residents demand an immediate resolution to the electricity crisis.

According to PESCO spokesperson Irfan Musa Zai, the situation in Peshawar continues to be monitored closely amid escalating protests against the ongoing power outages.
