President Asif Ali Zardari emphasized the importance of restraint and dialogue in resolving the issues in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) during a meeting with members of the AJK Legislative Assembly affiliated with the Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPPP).

He urged all stakeholders, including political parties, state institutions, and the people of AJK, to act responsibly to prevent the exploitation of the situation by hostile elements.

Talking to members of the AJK Legislative Assembly, the President highlighted that the demands of the people of AJK should be addressed as per law. He also offered condolences over the unfortunate death of the police officer and prayed for swift recovery of all those who were injured in recent clashes.

Azad Kashmir was in turmoil over the weekend due to clashes between protesters and police amid ongoing demonstrations against increased electricity bills. Despite efforts, normalcy wasn’t restored on Sunday, with a strike causing further tension. Tragically, an additional sub-inspector lost his life, and nearly 15 police personnel were injured in the violence.

However, today marked a positive turn as negotiations between the Joint Action Committee and the government concluded successfully.
