President Zardari greenlights governor appointments for Punjab, KP, Balochistan

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has given his nod to the appointments of governors for Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) , and Balochistan, announced on Saturday.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari finalised the names of the governors for Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan in their meeting at the PM House.

The prime minister and PPP chairman had previously endorsed the same names, which were approved by the president today.

Sardar Salim Haider Khan has been designated as the Governor of Punjab, while Faisal Karim Kundi’s appointment as the Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has also received President Zardari’s approval. Additionally, Jaffar Khan Mandokhail has been appointed as the Governor of Balochistan.

The green signal for these appointments has been issued in accordance with Article 101(1) of the Constitution.

The three names chosen for the governorship have longstanding affiliations with their respective parties. Haider has prior experience as a special assistant to the prime minister on overseas Pakistanis and served as minister of state for defence and defence production. Kundi, a former deputy speaker of the National Assembly, is currently the information secretary of the PPP, while Mandokhel, a senior PML-N leader, has been elected as a member of the Balochistan Assembly multiple times.
