WEB DESK: A heated exchange unfolded on the social media platform ‘X’ between former federal minister Shireen Mazari and her daughter, lawyer and activist Imaan Mazari, over a discussion involving politician Fawad Chaudhry.
The controversy began when journalist Salman Durrani shared a post referencing Fawad Chaudhry’s remarks during his appearance on Azaad Digital. In the interview, Chaudhry claimed, “The criticism against me is not from PTI’s social media but anti-Pakistan social media.”
Responding to the post, Shireen Mazari tweeted, “We should not label critics as anti-Pakistan. This is absurd and promotes a repressive environment.” She highlighted the importance of upholding freedom of expression and constitutional rights, urging tolerance in public discourse.
Mazari then directly addressed Chaudhry, saying, “My friend, this is not who you are.” Her comment suggested that Chaudhry’s remarks were out of character and inconsistent with his usual stance on dissent.
However, the exchange took a dramatic turn when Imaan Mazari retweeted her mother’s post with a sharp critique. Addressing her mother, Imaan wrote, “You need better friends. This is exactly who he is. He has learned nothing from the past and continues to appease those who brought him into politics and landed him in jail.”
Imaan further alleged that Chaudhry’s actions were influenced by his establishment ties, stating, “He is handing out patriotism certificates because his training comes from the establishment.”
