Sher Afzal Marwat on Monday criticised what he called “so-called” followers of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for “ruining our party identity”.
The outspoken PTI leader was invited by journalist Farooq Niazi to speak on the recently-passed 26th Constitutional Amendment as well as the role of several PTI members who voted in favour of said amendment.
However, Marwat didn’t show up for his scheduled interview on X (formerly Twitter). Explaining his reason, Marwat alluded to the comments of X followers.
“DEAR Niazi sb. After perusing the. Omments of so called PTI followers, I think these people do not need to be apprised about the situations and developments, paeticularly about the identity of those who betrayed Khan sb,” he said.
“Spaces are joined to spread awareness and clearly set the targets. Unfortunatly, a large number of Pakistani X-users are sick minded and behave if they are feeding the public. They have contributed a lot towards ruining our Party identity and both PTI and Khan sb have paid huge price for their wrongdoings on social media.”
Marwat named Mehi and Raja for bringing “so much notoriety” to PTI while lamenting that “yet a vast number of PTI followers listen to their lies and nonsenses”.
“Keeping in view the conduct of the people in your comment box, It will be a sheer wastage of my time to speak before duch audience. I have no regards for such people and thus regret to inform you that I will not be able to attend this space.
“Better invite someone like them but pardon me as I do not take dictation from anyone, I repeat from anyone, except Khan sb. Niazi sb, I hope you unddrstand my limitations and my emotional outbursts. Regards”
