ISLAMABAD – Opposition Leader Omar Ayub Khan has called for a thorough investigation into the Pakistanis named in the recent ‘Dubai Unlocked’ investigation. Speaking to journalists at Parliament on Wednesday, Khan emphasized the need to verify if these properties in Dubai have been declared.

The Explosive Exposé

The ‘Dubai Unlocked’ investigation, released on Tuesday, details properties owned by global elites in Dubai, including political figures, globally sanctioned individuals, alleged money launderers, and criminals. It uncovered several Pakistani politicians, former military personnel, bureaucrats, and businessmen owning properties valued at around $11 billion.

Prominent Names and Declarations

Notable names in the investigation include PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Senator Faisal Vawda, PTI leader Sher Afzal Marwat, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir Inspector General of Police Dr. Sohail Habib Tajik. Some have declared their properties in Dubai.

Concerns About Fund Sources

Khan raised concerns about the source of funds used to purchase these properties. “Were these funds sent with the State Bank’s permission and from which source?” questioned the PTI leader. He added that these revelations validate PTI founder Imran Khan’s warnings.

Calls for Broader Investigation

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan also demanded an investigation into hidden and laundered money. He questioned why the ruling elite are investing abroad. “It should also be considered why they are investing outside of Pakistan,” he said. Gohar criticized the ruling elite, calling them “qabza mafia.” He argued that Pakistanis would not invest abroad if the country’s environment were stable and governed by the rule of law.

‘Dubai Unlocked’ Project Overview

The ‘Dubai Unlocked’ project, based on data from 2020 and 2022, provides a detailed overview of hundreds of thousands of properties in Dubai and their ownership or usage.
