PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Adviser to Chief Minister on Information and Public Relations Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif termed the sealing off Islamabad a success of the PTI protest.
Barrister Saif has stated that the government’s decision to lockdown Islamabad to stop Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) protest on November 24 is a clear sign of the protest’s success.
In a statement, Barrister Saif said that the capital has been isolated from the rest of the country, with key roads blocked and communication channels disrupted.
“The government has closed off Islamabad in an attempt to stifle the democratic rights of the people,” Saif said, arguing that such actions are undermining citizens’ freedoms.
He called on the authorities to restore citizens’ rights instead of further curbing their mobility in a bid to secure the government’s hold on power.
The government’s efforts to prevent the planned PTI protest on November 24 have led to extensive security measures across the capital.
Roadblocks have been set up along the route to Adiala Jail, where PTI founding chairman Imran Khan is incarcerated. The police forces have been deployed at both the entry and exit points of the twin cities.
The Faizabad Interchange, a crucial connection between Islamabad and Rawalpindi, has also been closed, with businesses from Sixth Road to Faizabad shuttered. Hotels and restaurants around Faizabad’ Bus Stand have been sealed.
Meanwhile, Lahore authorities have imposed a near-total lockdown ahead of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) planned protest, with major roads and motorways blocked across the city.
Thousands of containers have been deployed to close off key entry and exit points, including the motorway at the Babu Sabu Interchange, disrupting traffic across the city and beyond.
