WEB DESK: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder, Imran Khan has decided to delay his announced civil disobedience movement for a few days. The former prime minister made this decision after his party’s “do-or-die” protest in Islamabad, expressing concerns for the country’s well-being.
Speaking to the media outside Adiala Jail on Tuesday, his sister Aleema Khan confirmed that the movement was being postponed by the brother. “Imran Khan is worried about the country… he will wait for a few more days, Aleema said.
Imran had claimed to go for civil disobedience in case his demands were not met. The demands included a judicial inquiry into the riots of 9th May 2023, a crackdown against PTI protesters on November 26, and a demand for the release of ‘political prisoners’ of the party. He had warned in a post on social networking site X the government for his possible action if these demands were not made to happen.
For negotiating purposes, Imran created a five-member committee that included important PTI members. They were Omar Ayub Khan, Ali Amin Gandapur, Sahibzada Hamid Raza, Salman Akram Raja, and Asad Qaiser. These last reports also cited that the PTI and the government were exploring the parliamentary forum as a possible form of negotiations after a meeting between PTI’s Asad Qaiser and National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq.
However, Qaiser denied these reports later, explaining that his visit to Sadiq’s home was to give his condolences, not a negotiation overture. The government continues to deny talks initiated with PTI as well.
