Speaker of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, has written another letter to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), requesting the disqualification of Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) (PML-N) dissident member, Adil Bazi, and declaring his seat vacant.
PML-N President Nawaz Sharif had previously sent a reference against Adil Bazi to the Speaker of the National Assembly. Bazi was absent from the assembly yesterday and did not vote in favor of the 26th constitutional amendment, as per Dawn News.
It is important to note that the National Assembly Secretariat recently submitted a request to the ECP for the disqualification of PML-N MNA Adil Bazi.
Despite being recorded as a PML-N member from Quetta, Bazi has frequently been seen sitting on the opposition benches, criticising the government.
Currently, it remains unclear which party’s support he had during the upcoming elections on February 8. According to the National Assembly’s website, Bazi contested the elections from the Quetta constituency NA-262.
Sources revealed to Dawn that he won as an independent candidate but later joined PML-N. Reports indicate that he submitted an affidavit to the ECP stating his loyalty.
According to the law, an independent candidate cannot switch parties after submitting a loyalty affidavit to the ECP. Nevertheless, Bazi has been seen aligning himself with members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC).
Furthermore, the Special Secretary of the National Assembly wrote to the Secretary of the Election Commission, indicating that MNA Adil Bazi violated the orders of the party leadership. The reference against Bazi has been sent to the ECP by the National Assembly Secretariat under Article 63(A).
