ISLAMABAD:  Judge Afzal Majoka of the District and Sessions Court has announced his intention to rule on the appeals against the sentence in the Iddat case within the next 10 days.

On Friday, the court reviewed appeals requesting an expedited hearing of petitions seeking the suspension of sentences given to PTI founder Imran Khan and his spouse Bushra Bibi in the Iddat case.

Advocate Usman Riaz Gul, representing Bushra Bibi, presented a written directive from the Islamabad High Court, urging for an accelerated hearing in compliance with the high court’s instructions.

Judge Majoka indicated that he would aim to deliver a decision within 10 days, circumstances permitting, but noted that holding the hearing the next day was impractical due to a backlog of pending bail applications.

The judge assured that he would proceed with the decision-making process even if the opposing party failed to appear.

Advocate Riaz then requested a hearing the following day to ensure that the notices were duly recorded. However, Judge Majoka explained that he was drafting an order for the day’s proceedings and highlighted the importance of the ongoing session beyond merely serving notices.

The court subsequently adjourned the hearing.

Following the adjournment, the District and Sessions Court issued notices to the involved parties, with further proceedings postponed until June 21.
