Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur issued a stern warning on Monday, stating that if the senior-most judge is not appointed as Chief Justice, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will mobilise street protests.
Criticism of the government and Judiciary’s independence
Speaking at the KP Assembly, Gandapur accused the current government of being “self-appointed” and undermining the judiciary.
He expressed concerns over the public’s ability to access justice, emphasizing that the judiciary’s independence is perceived to be compromised.
“Institutions meant to protect the people are now serving the interests of a select few,” he claimed, directly accusing the government of manipulating the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for political vendettas rather than genuine accountability.
Constitutional Amendments
Gandapur criticised unconstitutional amendments that, in his view, benefit only a privileged few at the expense of the nation’s 250 million citizens.

He blamed the governance so poor so far and declining in each socioeconomic sector of the economy, attributing these problems to decisions made by those acting against the public’s will.
“We will abolish these amendments whenever we regain our mandate,” he pledged, vowing to champion reforms that benefit the entire nation rather than a specific class.
PTI’s ideological struggle
Gandapur further warned that those who have shifted loyalties would be held accountable, adding that PTI would not tolerate such betrayals.
He reiterated PTI’s ideological commitment, stating that oppression or force would not weaken their resolve to pursue their cause.
