A couple involved in an underage marriage in Mehrabpur, Sindh, has been arrested by the police.
During a raid, authorities detained both the bride and groom and filed a case against them.
The groom, 22-year-old Basi Rajpar, married 12-year-old Sania.

Local authorities have also named the couple’s parents in the case and are working to apprehend them along with other individuals involved, including the witnesses.
Child marriage remains a significant issue in Pakistan, particularly in marginalised and underprivileged areas where it is still a common practice for girls to be married off before turning 18. In 2020, 95 percent of the 119 documented cases of child marriage in Pakistan involved young girls.
