Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif expressed profound admiration for the recent decision by the Government of Ireland to recognise the state of Palestine.

The prime minister stated that Ireland’s recognition of Palestine would send a powerful message of hope and solidarity to the innocent Palestinians suffering under Israel’s brutal atrocities.

In a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Ireland, Simon Harris, on Friday, PM Shehbaz also congratulated him on assuming office.

He reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to the just struggle of the Palestinian people and praised the International Court of Justice’s decision to order Israel to halt its assaults on Gaza and Rafah.

PM Shehbaz also expressed hope that the oppressed people of Kashmir would receive similar attention from the international community, as they have been enduring a brutal occupation and denial of fundamental human rights for the last seven decades.

Earlier, Ireland, Norway, and Spain announced that they would formally recognise a Palestinian state starting May 28.

Spain and Ireland clarified that the decision was not against Israel nor in favour of Hamas, but rather a step in support of peace.

Israel reacted angrily, warning that the move would lead to greater instability in the region and recalling its ambassadors from all three countries.
