Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif took to X to express his deep concern over the situation of Pakistani students in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

In the post, he said, “I have directed Pakistan’s Ambassador to provide all necessary help and assistance. My office is also in touch with the Embassy and constantly monitoring the situation.”

Earlier, there were alarming reports that three to four Pakistani students studying in Kyrgyzstan had died as a result of a mob attack. However, Pakistani authorities in Bishkek have now clarified that the Kyrgyz government has confirmed that no Pakistani student died in the recent mob violence against international students.

According to local media in Kyrgyzstan, a fight broke out between local and foreign students in a hostel in the capital city on May 13. A Pakistani medical student in Bishkek reported to a news channel that the dispute began over the harassment of Egyptian students by Kyrgyz students. The situation escalated into riots after Egyptian students confronted their harassers.

The Pakistani student added that Kyrgyz students then began attacking foreign students, including Pakistanis, across Bishkek. Amidst the violence, students have also voiced complaints about the non-cooperation of the Pakistan embassy.
