Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif on wednesday inaugurates model village, Gilgit, which were specially constructed for families affected by the 2022 floods on his one-day visit to Gilgit-Baltistan.

The model village has been built over 110 kanal of land and comprises homes that feature two bedrooms, solar power, water supply, and road connectivity.

PM Shehbaz sharif met separately with Governor (Gov.) Syed Mehdi Shah and Chief Minister (CM) Khalid Khurshid to discuss important regional matters. The leaders appreciated the recent economic stability achieved by the country and thanked the PM for his support in launching and inaugurating various developmental projects in the region.

Moreover, he will lay the foundation stones for several major projects, including the Naltar Expressway, the Greater Water Supply Project for Hunza, and a 54-megawatt hydroelectric power plant in Attabad.

Upon his arrival at the Chief Minister’s (CM) Secretariat, PM Shehbaz Sharif was warmly welcomed by children dressed in traditional attire and presented him with flowers. A Guard of Honor was also presented to the PM in recognition of his visit.

The PM also paid his respects at the Martyrs Memorial, laying a wreath in honor of those who sacrificed their lives for peace and security in the region.

In his remarks, Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the sacrifices made by the youth of Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts, who have worked tirelessly to maintain peace and protect the lives of the people.

PM reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the welfare and prosperity of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan and promised the swift completion of these vital projects.

He further said that the federal government remains committed to enhancing the region’s infrastructure and improving the quality of life for its citizens.

The PM’s visit is expected to drive significant developments in the region and reinforce the federal government’s ongoing efforts to support the growth and welfare of Gilgit-Baltistan.
