Pakistan’s efforts to privatise Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) are likely to encounter further delays after the Privatisation Commission extended the bidding deadline by a month, as reported by the sources.
Bidding extended amid uncertainty
The Commission announced that the new deadline for PIA’s privatisation bids has been moved to October 31, with advance payments now due by October 28. Sources within the commission indicated that the decision to extend the deadline was unexpected, and no official reason for the extension has been disclosed.
The move is expected to hinder progress on the long-awaited privatisation of the struggling airline, as it follows a period of anticipation for the bidding process. Sources added that no bids had been submitted as of yet, despite the fact that preparations for the auction had been finalised by October 1.
