The Peshawar High Court has summoned the Chief Secretary, Secretary Home, and City Police Chief (CCPO) in connection with a raid on the “Pashtun National Jirga” meeting site in Jamrud, Khyber District, as well as incidents of gunfire and shelling in the area.

Moreover, notices have also been issued to the Deputy Attorney General regarding the case.

Manzoor Pashteen, leader of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM), claimed in a statement released yesterday that police fired shots and used tear gas during the raid, injuring several party workers and destroying tents at the site.

The PTM is set to hold a three-day jirga named “Pashtun National Jirga/Court” on October 11 in Khyber District to protest ongoing unrest across the province.

Leaders from all political parties, nationalists, and various other factions from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan have been invited to participate in the jirga.

Tents have already been erected in the Regi Lalma area of Khyber for the event, and PTM workers are currently busy with preparations. However, reports indicate that police allegedly raided the site on Tuesday night.

In response to the crackdown on the PTM camp, Junaid Akbar, a member of the National Assembly from Malakand representing the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has called on the Chief Minister to take action against those responsible for the raid.

Manzoor Pashteen also met with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur on Tuesday to discuss the national jirga.

On Thursday, Zahidullah, a resident of Khyber District, filed a petition with the Peshawar High Court, requesting an immediate hearing of the case.

The case was heard by Justices Arshad Ali and Shakeel Ahmed at the Peshawar High Court.

Following the hearing, the court issued an order stating that the Chief Secretary, Secretary Home, CCPO, and Deputy Attorney General must appear in court tomorrow to provide updates on the situation.

The order highlighted that the provincial government alleges that the federal authorities directed the Chief Secretary to take action, and there are accusations that citizens were subjected to shelling and gunfire.
