A petition has been submitted to the University of Oxford, urging it to reject former prime minister Imran Khan’s bid for the Chancellor position, claiming his intentions are driven by personal and political goals rather than the interests of the university.
The petition, filed by PML-N UK activist Khurram Butt, argues that Khan is using the Chancellor election for political advantage, aiming to gain media attention. Butt stated on Tuesday that he visited the university to distribute leaflets and submit fresh evidence, warning the institution not to get involved in political disputes.

The petition has raised concerns about Khan’s involvement in corruption, citing the UK’s National Crime Agency’s £190 million case and allegations of financial misconduct in both Pakistan and the UK. It also points to Khan’s conviction over selling state gifts and his involvement in the illegal funding of his political campaigns.
The document has also highlighted several controversial statements made by Khan, including remarks perceived as insensitive toward sexual assault and his support for the Taliban. The petition stressed that such views are not aligned with Oxford’s values.
It further noted that Khan had to resign as Chancellor of Bradford University due to a lack of involvement in university matters and that his current imprisonment could prevent him from fulfilling the Chancellor role at Oxford.
