A petition has been submitted at Oxford University opposing the nomination of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan as the university’s chancellor.

The petition, submitted to the Oxford University administration, raised concerns about Imran Khan’s public and personal record. It alleged that Khan has a history of supporting extremist groups, including the Taliban, and cited his previous reference to Osama bin Laden as a “martyr.”

The petition also criticized Imran Khan’s stance on women’s rights, highlighting that he has attributed rape incidents to women’s clothing. It argued that Khan’s values and personal conduct conflict with the principles and laws upheld by Oxford University.

Recently, Zulfi Bukhari confirmed that the former Prime Minister has decided  to run for the position of Chancellor at the University of Oxford. Khan studied Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) at Keble College from 1972 to 1975, and during his time there, he also captained the university’s cricket team.

For the first time, an election will be held to decide the new Chancellor of Oxford University, following the decision of 80-year-old Lord Chris Patten to retire later this year. Over 250,000 Oxford graduates and former staff members will be eligible to vote online for the position, which has been held by only three individuals since 1960.
