The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has approved a significant bill aimed at protecting animals in the province, designed to curb violence and cruelty against them.
Under this new law, those found guilty of animal abuse or overloading animals will face up to six months in prison and a fine of Rs100,000.
Key features of the bill
The bill stipulates a three-month imprisonment for those who engage animals in fights for entertainment purposes, as per Dawn News.
Additionally, it mandates comfortable transportation and safe travel for animals during movement.

The bill specifies that only licensed veterinarians will be permitted to perform surgeries on animals, ensuring that they receive proper medical care.
Furthermore, a fine of Rs10,000 or three months in prison will be imposed on the owner for concealing information regarding violations of animal rights.
This bill marks a positive step towards animal protection and aims to further ensure the safeguarding of animal rights in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
