Karachi on High Alert as PMD Declares Sudden Rain Emergency

The Meteorological Department updated its advisory for Karachi on Thursday, indicating that the city was not expected to experience heavy showers despite rain emergency preparations being in place.

While rainfall persisted in various areas of Balochistan, Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz clarified that Karachi was unlikely to witness heavy rain. Sarfraz mentioned that the rain system originating from Balochistan was moving towards Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with potential for heavy rainfall in various regions of both provinces. He further noted the forecast of torrential rains along the coastal areas of Balochistan.

“Heavy rainfall is occurring in certain parts of Balochistan,” the chief meteorologist elaborated.

In the meantime, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC), Engineer Asadullah Khan, took action on Wednesday by dispatching 55 suction machines to all major highways across the city.

In a video statement, he mentioned that Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab had declared a rain emergency in anticipation of the forecasted rainfall by the Meteorological Department. Khan further stated that the water corporation had finalized all necessary preparations to address the impending rain.
