The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to organise a “Connection Camp,” a strategic meeting and workshop involving key figures from the cricket board, to chart the future direction of Pakistan cricket, sources revealed to Geo News on Saturday.

The camp, scheduled for September 22, will be chaired by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. Attendees will include Pakistan’s white-ball head coach Gary Kirsten, red-ball head coach Jason Gillespie, senior cricketers, high-performance centre heads, and key international and domestic directors.

The gathering aims to design Pakistan cricket’s future strategies, and significant decisions regarding the national team will be based on recommendations made during the camp, the sources added.

Gary Kirsten returned to his homeland after submitting his report to the PCB in July, while Jason Gillespie left for Australia following the team’s disappointing Bangladesh Test series. According to sources, the coaches for white-ball and red-ball cricket will hold separate discussions during the camp.

Key topics of discussion will include potential changes in team leadership across formats. There is strong speculation that the captaincy of the white-ball team could be up for review, with the leadership of Test skipper Shan Masood also under scrutiny.

A day prior, reports suggested that wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan had emerged as a leading contender for the white-ball captaincy. Sources indicated that Babar Azam’s exclusion from the captaincy during the Champions One-Day Cup hinted at a possible long-term shift in leadership.

The appointment of a new captain for Pakistan’s one-day and T20 formats is expected before the team’s upcoming tour of Australia in November. There is also a possibility that Rizwan could be considered for the captaincy of all three formats in the future, according to insiders.
