WEB DESK: Pakistan’s second satellite, PakSat-MM1, has been launched into space. Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) spokesperson stated that Pakistan’s second communication satellite, PakSat-MM1, is being sent into space today.
The SUPARCO spokesperson mentioned that the satellite will be launched into space from China’s Xi Chang Satellite Launch Center. Weighing five tons, the latest satellite is equipped with state-of-the-art communication tools, aiming to provide Pakistan with the fastest internet services across its length and breadth.
The satellite will be placed in orbit at an altitude of 36,000 kilometers above the Earth. It may take three to four days for the satellite to reach space from the Earth. This endeavor is expected to play a significant role in promoting e-commerce, e-governance, and economic activities.

The SUPARCO spokesperson stated that the PakSat-MM1 satellite is a joint venture between SUPARCO and the Chinese Aerospace Industry.
PakSat-MM1 is expected to function for 15 years. It will contribute to improving TV broadcasting, cellular phone, and broadband services. The satellite is set to commence service in August next year, with a bandwidth capacity of 10 gigabits per second.
At present, Pakistan has two communication satellites in space. PakSat-1R was launched in 2011 with a lifespan of 15 years, which will be completed in 2026. Another remote sensing satellite of Pakistan, PRSS-1, is also present in space, which was launched in 2018.
