Pakistan has achieved a historic milestone in the current fiscal year by generating $4 billion in revenue through rice exports for the first time.
This significant accomplishment, supported by the Sustainable Industries and Financial Corporation (SIFC), has led to an increase in the export target to $5 billion for the upcoming fiscal year.
Remarkable growth in agricultural production
The country has witnessed impressive growth in agricultural production, particularly in rice.
Basmati rice output has soared by 188 per cent, while silver rice production has increased by 17 per cent. This growth has played a crucial role in elevating Pakistan’s status in the global rice market.
Expanding mango exports
In addition to rice, Pakistan’s mango exports are gaining traction in the Chinese market, with 4,214 kilograms exported this year alone. This expansion signifies the increasing demand for Pakistani agricultural products internationally.
Overall export performance
According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, total merchandise exports for the fiscal year 2025 reached $5.05 billion, reflecting a 14 per cent increase from the previous year’s figure of $4.43 billion. This upward trend underscores the positive trajectory of Pakistan’s export sector.
Financial improvements across sectors
In a related development, Pakistan Refinery Limited reported a substantial profit of Rs4.06 billion, a significant rise from Rs1.82 billion in 2023. This improvement highlights the financial progress being made across various sectors of the economy.
