By DOHA: Pakistan’s Omar Khalid Hussain clinched fourth place in the 38th Qatar Open Golf Championship held at the Doha Golf Club, with a final round score of three-over-par 75 on Saturday.
According to media reports, the 19-year-old golfer was in contention for a podium finish, trailing behind England’s Calum Fitzgerald and Qatar’s Saleh Al Kaabi until the 17th hole of the final round. However, his ambitious approach shot on the par-5 18th, aiming for an eagle, led to a bogey, settling him for fourth place behind Ireland’s Keith Crawley, who secured third.

Reflecting on his performance, Omar stated, “I took some risks in hopes of finishing strongly in the championship.” He was the sole Pakistani competitor among nearly 100 players from 30 countries. Fitzgerald emerged victorious with a final round score of 76, earning the opportunity to compete in the prestigious Qatar Masters, a European Tour event.

Despite his efforts, Omar expressed disappointment at his putting performance, particularly on the fast greens, which posed a stark contrast to those he was accustomed to back home. His scores of 75, 76, and 75 across the 54-hole championship positioned him sixth in the previous Qatar Open.
Omar’s final round began on an uncertain note, marked by early bogeys on the first and third holes, followed by birdies on holes 4, 6, and 7. Although he completed the front nine at 36, a double bogey on the 10th hole marred his back nine. A birdie on hole 14 salvaged his performance, concluding with a 39 on the wind-swept DGC course, spanning over 7500 yards.
