A woman celebrated her divorce by cutting a cake and dressing up in a lehnga choli in the presence of her friends in Pakistan.

In a viral video, the woman is cutting her wedding dupatta with her ex-husband’s name on it. She cut the dupatta with scissors, and tore the pictures of her wedding day.

This display of “divorce celebration” is often viewed as controversial by many social media users.

Reaction to the divorce video

According to Pakistani society, the display of divorce celebration is disrespectful to the sanctity of marriage. However, on the other hand, many people recognised the importance of escaping toxic relationships.

Hence, the video received mixed reactions from the audience. The celebratory nature of the video has sparked debate, with numerous people in Pakistan criticising the woman and spreading hate against her in the comment section, but some people encouraged the woman for her bold move and congratulated her.

A similar incident took place some months ago.

Earlier this year, another Pakistani woman hosted a post-divorce party to celebrate the end of her marriage and the beginning of a new chapter. She danced to Bollywood songs in the video and enjoyed with her friends.

Divorce is still a taboo subject in Pakistan. Couples who decide to get divorced are often judged, but primarily, Pakistani women receive the most blame.
