Baig was part of a joint Pakistan-Italy expedition aimed at scaling K2, reaching the base camp on June 28.

According to her brother, she developed severe breathing difficulties while acclimatizing, despite receiving treatment from Italian doctors.

Concern over her worsening condition prompted expedition organizers to request a helicopter evacuation to Skardu.
