Pakistani-American, Ali Sajjad Taj has announced his candidacy for the California State Assembly from District 67 for 2026 elections.
Sajjad, a member of the Democratic Party, has been endorsed by several prominent California leaders, including current Assembly woman Sharon Quirk-Silva, who has held the seat for three terms.
If he succeeds, Taj will become the first Pakistani-American representative in the California State Assembly.
He is currently serving his third term as mayor of Artesia city, California.

In an interview, In his statement, Sajjad expressed his gratitude for the widespread support, saying, “I am honored to receive the support of so many trusted leaders throughout our district.
“Together, we will build a brighter future for our communities, focusing on the issues that matter most—education, public safety, affordable housing, and economic growth.”
Sajjad hails from Lahore, Pakistan. His father was a notable figure in banking as he served as the president of one of Pakistan’s largest banks.
