UAE imposes visa ban on Pakistanis

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has imposed visa restrictions on Pakistani nationals citing multiple concerns including activities on social media violating the UAE laws.

The reasons behind the United Arab Emirates (UAE) decision to ban visas for Pakistani nationals have come to light, citing multiple concerns ranging from social media activities to criminal incidents, reported Samaa TV.

Some of the official papers forwarded by the UAE to the Pakistani embassy show that the measure came forward after a cabinet meeting where the report on some behavioral issues of Pakistanis was discussed.

The documents note that several citizens of Pakistan carried out activities that the UAE considers, such as participating in rallies, and criticising the UAE government’s policies through social media. Their sources claimed these actions were damaging to the UAE’s public relations.

Furthermore, it was expressed that certain Pakistani persons were involved in identity card and passport trimming for the purpose of forgery. The report also included activities such as theft, fraudulent activities, vagrancy, sexual, and drug-related crimes, which were allegedly higher among Pakistanis than other nationalities.

Such issues were also raised by the local bodies to the ambassador of Pakistan as well and it was stated that the strategy on visa restrictions was taken only after serious discussions at the highest level.

The Pakistani embassy in the UAE is reported to have informed Islamabad of the complaints and called for their immediate resolution.

The move raised issues among the Pakistanis living in the UAE who have adhered to the law and contributed to the economy.
