DUBAI: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has introduced a new requirement for Pakistanis applying for work visas. In addition to the regular employment visa, applicants will now need to provide a police character certificate.
According to Adnan Paracha, Vice Chairman of the Pakistan Overseas Employment Promoters Association (POEPA), this new condition comes after complaints were received about Pakistanis being involved in begging and other issues in the UAE.
Paracha further explained that the UAE had already imposed a ban on visit visas for people from 24 Pakistani cities, which has now been extended to 30 cities. Additionally, due to the unavailability of work visas over the past year, more than 100,000 Pakistanis were unable to secure jobs in the UAE.
The new police character certificate requirement is seen as a step by the UAE to address these concerns. The Pakistani government’s response to the situation, ensuring that the police certificate is provided, has been welcomed as a positive development.
