KURRAM: Two miscreants allegedly involved in the attack on Deputy Commissioner Kurram in Bagan area on Friday were arrested.

The arrested accused have been named in the First Information Report (FIR).  Police said they were shifted to an unknown location for further interrogation.

In a high-level meeting held in Kohat, it has also been decided to register terrorism cases against those who encouraged Saturday’s gun attack on the DC convoy.

The attack on the convoy left at least five people including a deputy commissioner of the district Javed Ullah Mehsud injured.

The text of the case said that the DC was attacked at Bagan while coming from Sadda to Bagan. As many as 30 people including five unknown persons have been named in the case. The FIR carries provisions of anti-terrorism law.

On the other hand, a ban has been imposed on the gathering of more than 5 people in Kurram district for 2 months under Section 144.

Under Section 144, there will also be a ban on the display of weapons for 2 months.

After the attack, Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur chaired an emergency meeting and reviewed the law and order situation and decided to arrest the accused involved in Saturday’s shooting on an aid convoy in the Bagan area en route to Parachinar. The Kurram that has been hit by clashes in recent weeks.

After the Bagan shooting, the departure of a convoy carrying relief supplies for the Kurram district was stopped.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said that the firing on government vehicles in Lower Kurram is a conspiracy to sabotage the peace agreement.

Kurram, a district of around 600,000 people, has been rocked by tribal clashes since Nov. 21 when gunmen attacked a convoy of passengers that left at least 52 people including women dead.

The deadly attack sparked further violence and a blockade of a main road connecting Kurram’s main town of Parachinar with Peshawar. The blockade caused medicine, food and fuel shortages in the area.

Yesterday’s gun attack comes days after a grand jirga, formed by the KP provincial government, brokered a peace deal between the warring sides and agreed to open the roads, closed for 86 days.

Under the agreement, both sides agreed to demolish bunkers and hand over heavy weapons to the authorities within two weeks.

The attack again caused a first aid convoy spearheading the deputy commissioner.

The KP government spokesperson Barrister Saif said that the aid convoy will be dispatched soon after receiving clearance.
