WEB DESK: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a traffic advisory for tourists heading to Murree District, following heavy rain and snowfall.
PDMA spokesman Irfan Ali Kathia emphatically urged caution, indicating weather predictions for the next 24 hours would further intensify disruption of traffic on the roads.
The spokesman has said that road maintenance teams are continuously engaged in countering hazards by snow and rain. This would involve an early daily salt treatment of road surfaces and the positioning of heavy machines to clear snow in real-time. PDMA has ordered local administration teams to remain alert and not be slack in duty when running the traffic.
The administration has put up a total of 13 facilitation centers to boost tourists visiting Murree and offer the needed advice and assistance. “The administration, according to the weather conditions, is responsible for ensuring that tourists have the requisite facilities,” said the spokesperson.
He added that there would be constant monitoring of weather developments before embarking on travel. “Murree, the Queen of Hills, has a lot of visitors, but we want to ensure that no untoward incident happens. Citizens are once again requested to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel,” the spokesperson added.
Visitors are encouraged to work with local officials and keep safety first when they travel to Murree, mostly in bad weather.
