KARACHI: Sindh authorities have set a deadline of April 2025 to phase out yellow number plates on private vehicles. The Sindh Excise and Taxation Department introduced a new policy to boost vehicle identification and public safety.
Private vehicles will receive white plates with the traditional Sindh Ajrak design, while commercial vehicles will keep yellow plates featuring the same design.
The policy shall take effect on April 3, 2025, and violators will be penalised for having yellow number plates on their private vehicles and black number plates on their commercial vehicles after the given date. This initiative follows the premium number plate scheme introduced by the Sindh government, under which vehicle owners had the opportunity to buy premium plates with fancy designs and one-of-a-kind numbers.
Furthermore, traffic officers have been instructed to broaden the net of enforcement against vehicles without valid number plates to stem violations and malaise in the e-challan system. Now, the traffic police have issued fines amounting to 221000 for such acts; any vehicle having fake or unregistered plates-bearing those purposely covered to evade detection would face harsher penalties.
