The Sindh government is set to launch the second phase of its premium number plate initiative in Karachi on October 12 to support flood relief efforts.

The first phase, which took place in July, successfully raised Rs670 million to fund the world’s largest housing project for flood victims, as announced by Sharjeel Inam Memon, Senior Minister for Information, Transport, and Excise.

This phase introduces an online portal, allowing residents to conveniently purchase their desired premium number plates from home—an unprecedented move in Pakistan.

In June, the Sindh government hosted its inaugural premium number plate auction, featuring three categories tailored to various preferences and budgets:

  • Platinum Category: Three-character plates starting at Rs2 million.
  • Gold Category: Up to five-character plates with a base price of Rs1 million.
  • Silver Category: Budget-friendly options with up to seven characters, starting at Rs50,000.

In July, the provincial government prohibited vehicle owners from selecting their regular plate numbers, assigning numbers based on application order.

However, premium plates remain exempt from this rule, allowing buyers to pursue unique combinations through a separate application process.
